In this article, I show how to solve a Foscam camera problem, not sending email alerts even when the motion is detected.
If the user is not receiving emails from the Foscam camera, the first thing that needs to be checked is motion detection
- Open the inbox, spam and trash folder and look for the email;
- Make sure the camera motion detection is enabled;
- Check if the box "Send Mail Alarm on Email" is checked;
- Ensure the box "Uploadd image on Alarm" is checked;
- Check if the email service is not blocking unknown devices;
Let's check how to perform each one of these steps.
Check the inbox, spam, and trash
Sometimes the message from your camera ends up in the SPAM folder.
It's recommended to check this folder and also the trash.
If you are using a corporate email, ask your technical team to check the email filtering rules; sometimes, emails that are not whitelisted are tagged as SPAM.
Enable motion detection
Check the camera log to make sure the motion detection is working correctly.
The picture below shows an example of the motion detection events on a camera.
Enable the send mail on alarm feature
Double-check if the motion detection is enabled by checking the "Send Mail Alarm on Email" box. See the picture below for more details.
With such a configuration, the camera can send emails every time a motion is detected according to the motion sensitivity set up on this page.
Check the Upload image feature
To make sure you get a picture with the email check the "Upload Image on Alarm".
It's important to receive images from a triggered alarm so you can have an idea about what's happening in front of the camera.
Make sure the device is not blacklisted
If you are using a Gmail account, there's a security measure in place to prevent non-secure apps and devices from using the mail server.
Set up the security feature on your Google account to let your camera to send emails using the server.
