Remote controls are everywhere now, from TVs to ceiling fans. But you can also use them to access your security system. This article will cover what to do if your Hikvision remote control is not working.
You might be wondering why you should even use remote controls for your Hikvision devices. Though a mouse might be quicker, it is hooked up to the recorder, thus removing your flexibility.
By using a remote, you can access the CCTV recorder’s menu, speed up footage, open cameras on full screen, and much more. It also allows you to adjust settings, backup footage on USB, and playback saved footage.
Hikvision recorders (NVR/DVR) usually come with a remote control included in the box. Yet, that does not mean it is going to work properly. If your Hikvision remote control is not working, don’t worry, it is a common happening.
Sometimes these controllers don’t react, go crazy, or do not even work. Below you will find tips to fix any issues with your Hikvision remote.
Hikvision remote control is not working– Troubleshooting
The first thing you should check is the batteries in the remote. If there are dead or there aren’t any, change the batteries and make sure the + and – are on the correct sides.
Attempt to use the remote by being near the device and aiming the remote towards the front panel of the NVR/DVR. If the Hikvision remote control is not working, follow the steps below.
- Plug in a mouse through the recorder’s USB port.
- Open Menu, Configurations, General, and More Settings
- Write down the device number. The default number (225) is valid for all Hikvision IR remote controls. You now need to link the remote to the recorder using the device number, and they should be able to communicate with one another.
- To connect them, select the “DEV” button on the controller and enter the device number you found. When done, press “Enter” on the remote.

Tips
If the remote is working, you should see a blinking light. However, if there is no response from the controller, check the following. Batteries should be brand new and correctly placed. Make sure that the polarities are set up properly.
There should also be a clear path between the recorder and the remote. No objects should be in the way, and you should not be too far away from the NVR/DVR.
It could also be that a button is stuck, and your controller can’t process anything else. This can happen due to debris or the silicone of the remote that gets stuck on the way back up after being pressed.
The buttons can also be broken if exposed to weather, humidity, or water. Therefore, you should always keep your remote in a dry location and be careful not to drop it.
