no, Ive heard that the back door was jammed and that it was blessing in disguise because if they were able to open it the plane would of sunk.

Just remember, there is a lot of air in an airplane because everything is hollow. The wings, the fuselage, the tail, everything is full of air and has a good seal for cabin pressurization. The plane will float for a short time as long as it holds together (as in this case..) As the air escapes, the plane sinks. Opening the rear escape door had the fastest effect on this plane’s sinking because the rear was already submerged.

Ditching in water is a practiced training technique,a Feild near a city airport may contain one of many things 1.Power lines 2.Roads and motorways 3.houses next to the feilds(yes we r close to a city airport and not in desert!) 4. Tesco ,finally 5.some cows.

HOWEVER the hudson where he landed is four times longer than runway 27 at Heathrow hence a doddle landing.the Airbus is even fitted with sealable doors so it floats longer.A well trained and brilliantly executed move by the pilot. But had he been a few miles past the hudson then CNN would reporting different headlines of a fatal plane crash into a field where the injuries occured on the impact of a hill , woods or buildings!!! any reply?

apparently he’s an ex raf pilot, we got a lecture in the UK saying that if he was to land slightly less horizontally his wing tips would have caused the plane to jacknife as they hit the water, at about 200 mph, the plane stopping so quickly would have broken people’s necks etc…wel, done mr pilot!
